SaaS pricing strategies
SaaS pricing strategies are the ways a vendor turns use of the product into a bill. The model matters as much as the sticker, because the bill changes when the team, the sites, or the usage changes.
How much is SaaS per month/year
There is no single monthly or yearly price. A per-seat plan is the seat price times the people who have a login. A tier is whichever bundle you actually need. A usage plan moves with the meter. A flat plan is one amount until you hit the cap.
Published list prices are a starting point for that sum, for this year and the next. They are not a quote.
Per seat
You pay for each person with a login. The price is easy to explain in a meeting. Watch the seats nobody opens, the contractor who needs a login for a short job, and a higher price for people who only need a phone.
Team chat such as Slack and Microsoft Teams is often sold this way. A frontline crew can look inexpensive per person and costly once every shift needs an account. Compare the chat tools against how your company actually works before you multiply a sticker by headcount.
Tiered
A few named plans each bundle a set of features. Watch the one feature that sits a tier above the plan you wanted, and the jump in price when you cross it.
CRM tools such as HubSpot and Pipedrive, and work tools such as monday.com and Asana, commonly publish tiers. Read which tier includes the history, the admin controls, and the connections to the rest of your stack.
Usage-based
The bill follows a meter: messages, contacts, automation runs, storage, or calls to an interface. Watch the meter you do not control, such as a busy season in a shop or a campaign that creates a pile of new contacts.
Price a quiet month and a peak month before you sign. A usage bill that looks small in a pilot can move for reasons that have nothing to do with how much your team likes the product.
Flat
One price for the company, or one price up to a cap, is easy to budget. Watch the cap, and what happens the month you pass it. A flat price that becomes a per-seat price at a threshold is a tier with a different name.
What buyers should watch
Ask what happens at renewal, whether you pay for a year up front, whether there is a minimum, and whether removing a person stops the charge right away. A list price is a starting point, not the invoice.
The calculator on this site multiplies published list prices by a headcount you choose, for this year and the next, including growth. It is not a quote. When you know the shape of the bill, grade the product against the team that has to use it.
